2019 South West Business Excellence Awards Results

2020 – a year like no other! One most of us have never before experienced in our lifetime and one many never wish to experience again. But in every dark cloud there lies a silver lining and it is through this lens that I focus in reflecting on the 2020 South West Business Excellence Awards.

Amid the uncertainty and disruption a worldwide pandemic threw our way, businesses across our region displayed astonishing levels of creativity, innovation, adaptability and resilience. We observed unprecedented levels of collaboration, businesses embracing digital technologies, reassessing our values to what is truly important in life, and a resurgence of community support for buying local. Our judging panel felt humbled and in awe of how incredibly innovative and adaptive many high-caliber entrants had been in coping with the challenges inflicted upon them.

Within this troublesome landscape BSW Connect boldly decided to progress with the 2020 Awards, grasping the opportunity to review, adapt and transform the program, use the application process to help businesses reappraise their

business model, set strategic goals and develop transformational plans for building a more robust and resilient business.

Despite their challenges, 42 businesses from 9 local government authorities embraced the awards and submitted an application in pursuit of some 20 major, industry and judges’ choice award categories. Thirty-one businesses

were selected as finalists. We also received 10 Employee of the Year entries and 12 business owners rivaled to be crowned 2020 Star Business Person of the Year. We commend each and every finalist in becoming part of our

acclaimed group of star businesses in our region.
